Hot meal distribution @ Ang Mo Kio

As part of the camp organised for the girls, on the second day of the camp, on 17 March 2018, the Secondary girls from Madrasah As-Soabereen (Bishan and Eunos branches) gathered at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 for Food distribution for the residents living in blocks 123 and 125 at 9am.

Breakfast is key at the start of the day. Thus, the Secondary girls were served by their ustazahs to a hearty breakfast specially hand-made by parent volunteers. Alhamdulillah.

Just in time, the feshly cooked dishes in enormous pots at Masjid Darul Aman arrived at Ang Mo Kio, Blk 121. Together with Ang Mo Kio RC Zone 3 volunteers, the girls formed a food packing chain. The girls were all very excited to contribute their efforts.

The intent of the distribution was to hand deliver 200 packets of food, door to door to the residents. Factoring in that some residents may have an early lunch, everyone packed in an orderly manner, non-stop. The Secondary girls definitely learnt a few  pointers pertaining to packing of food; such as tying of curry bags securely. Indeed an experiential learning for the volunteers. Surprisingly, all the dishes were packed earlier than the targetted timing.

Thereafter, the first-timers were briefed on the etiquettes of door-to-door food distribution and the purpose of the food distribution – to spread the sunnah of Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W) by giving food to the needy and to develop the habit of gratitude for whatever we are blessed with.

This door-to-door food distribution gave Secondary girls a new insight on what it takes to be living in small rental flats. Seeing big families living in compact spaces and elderlies living all alone gave them a glimpse of how life can be very different for many people.

During the reflection session, after the food distribution our girls shared that this experience made them appreciate the Rahmath that Allah (S.W.T) has given them and realised the importance of serving the community. Our girls are looking forward to more of such projects in the future. Alhamdulillah!
