16-17 March 2018
28-29 Jamadil Awwal 1439
On 16 and 17 March 2018, on the first and second day of the the 4 days, 3 nights camp for the boys the Ustads and Ustazas of Madrasah As-Soabeeren (Bishan and Eunos Branches) Nurturing Yong Minds (NYM) Team had planned to involve the boys in enhancing the appearance of the masjid.
Salman (R.A) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said:
“If a man takes bath on Friday, cleans himself as much as he can, oils his hair, applies perfume available in his house, sets forth for the mosque, does not separate two people (to make a seat for himself), performs as many Prayers as written [by Allah] for him, remains silent when the Imam speaks, his sins between that Friday and the following Friday will be forgiven.”
On Friday before Jummu’ah, Muslims are encouraged to take extra effort to cleanse oneself. As the pre-conditions of prayers includes keeping the body, clothes and place clean, the need to keep the masjid clean is equally important. Additionally, to encourage younger generation to frequent the masjid often. to stay (I’tikaf) at the Masjid and bond with their fellow Muslim brother; the March holidays camp was themed on ‘Attachment to the Masjid’.
“There are seven whom Allah will shade in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His Shade: a just ruler: a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; a man whose heart is attached to the mosques; two men who love each other for Allah’s sake, meeting for that and parting upon that; a man who is called by a woman of beauty and position (for illegal intercourse), but he says: ‘I fear Allah’; a man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his justify hand does not know that his right hand gives charity; and a man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears.”
Hadith Bukhari and Muslim
Following the theme, the boys were given the task of sprucing up Masjid Darul Aman; as Masjid Darul Aman was their camp location and also a Masjid that most visit, especially on every Saturday. One of the Ustads, who guided the boys on ‘Giving the masjid a good wash’ continuously reminded the boys to clean properly; without missing any corners. As a result, the boys understood the importance of taking very good care of the Masjid premises at all times.
The boys started of by cleaning up on both the inside and the outside of the premise on 16 March, prior to Jumu’ah prayers. They aimed to clean a substantial area around the masjid before Jumu’ah prayers, so as to prepare themselves to join the Jumu’ah prayers in time. Alhamdulillah, with Allah’s grace, they did.
As the spring cleaning was complete on 16 April, the painting works commenced on 17 April, as planned. As the Upper Primary to Lower Secondary boys generally did not have painting experience, the Ustads and Upper Secondary to Tertiary boys provided guidance to the them.
They learnt the techniques of painting without damaging the priorties around; such as laying out the polyurethane sheets and neatly taping the floors and skirtings. The boys learnt the right method to paint properly as well. As all the boys worked together to re-paint the Masjid, they managed to give the masjid a good clean up.
The activity was considered to be fruitful for the boys, who generally learn better through experiential learning. Through the cleaning and painting activities the boys were able to work as a team and give the masjid a good clean. Therefore, as worshippers as well as the students, all will be able to have a nice and clean environment to pray and learn in.
