Reliving the Kampong lifestyle was the theme for Masjid Darul Aman (MDA)’s family day carnival held on 9th March 2019, Saturday. Co-hosted by MDA and IMSSA East Division, with the Guest-Of-Honor (GOH), Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, the Speaker of Parliament, the event aimed to reach out to families and to encourage family gatherings in mosques to engage in meaningful and bonding activities.
In light with initiatives on leading and promoting health lifestyles, health screening, blood tests for participants who had fasted overnight, and health talks on Dementia and Eyes were conducted between 8am to 10am. Breakfast that consisted of Bee Hoon, Chicken Porridge and Tuna Sandwiches were also provided for the volunteers.
Before the carnival games began, the mosque was decorated with over 200 colourful balloons. A strong support of about 1000 participants out of which 100 from low income families were also invited for communal lunch. Our GOH distributed special goodie bags in view of their participation.
Freshly prepared Nasi Lemak with fried chicken and egg were served as lunch with bandung and blueberry drinks, for all participants. They really loved their scrumptious meal!
Participants who had purchased the tickets were allowed to engage in 14 traditional game booths managed by MDA and IMSSA’s volunteers. The booths consisted of Bola Tin, Slingshot, Horse Legs, Kuti Kuti, Hoop Wheel, Fishing, Goli, Chapteh, Pickup Sticks, Egg Ping Pong, Drive Thru, Mini Bowling, Marble Mazes as well as Henna!
The booths brought out the students and parents to enjoy via its joyful and nostalgic games. All participants also loved the popcorn, cup corn, candy floss booths and enjoyed the variety of kacang puteh. What are carnivals without these food stalls!
After lunch, Colouring Competition, Kite Making Competition, Expedition in the Masjid and Kompang & Bedok workshop were held simultaneously for the primary to tertiary student levels that were well received by them.
As the last segment of the day, results for the competitions and expedition were announced. Subsequently, lucky draw was conducted where families went home with big wins.
Overall, through MDA and IMSSA east division’s very first family day, the audience were entertained by the fun game booths, talks and various activities. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation go to the MDA working team, families, Ustazahs and Ustads who had contributed in a way or another, to make this event a major success. We are looking forward to continue working together in many more activities in the future!
