Sharing the blessings of Eid with the less fortunate

18th June 2017
23 Ramadan 1438

As part of IMSSA’s ‘Blessings To All’ initiatives during festive seasons, this Hari Raya Puasa, 400 Muslim and non-Muslim families received assorted Hari Raya cookies along with dates, porridge and biryani rice on the 18th of June, Sunday.

The team started preparations for the initiative about a month ago where volunteers and participants were encouraged to buy extra bottles or bake boxes of their favourite Hari Raya cookies and donate them to our “Raya Cookies” donation drive. The collected cookie bottles were then assorted, repackaged and given away to needy families just before Hari Raya – a chance for them to enjoy the different types of Raya cookies with their loved ones during the festive occasion.

Participants were highly encouraged to “Give others what you love”.

Thus many bought their favourite cookies and some even baked their own cookies to give away to the needy families. WhereasOthers gave cash donations which were used to buy all-time favourite cookies such as Nutella tarts, pineapple tarts and even some of the new exotic flavours.

An overwhelming response of more than 200 bottles of at least 30 different types of cookies, biscuits, pastries and kuehs arrived at Masjid An-Nahdhah – our cookie box collection point over the week of distribution. Around 30 volunteers started arranging and re-packaging the different types of cookies into a 6-compartment plastic container, which allowed for 6 varieties of cookies to be given to the families. Altogether, 400 assorted cookie boxes were packed and ready for distribution the next day.

On the distribution day itself, 2 teams set out to give away the festive goodies to needy families residing in Block 123 and 125, Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 and Block 26 Sin Ming Avenue.

The distribution team at Ang Mo Kio that comprised of 18 volunteers from IMSSA,was honoured to have Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of National Development, Mr Paiman Bin Supangat, Mosque Executive Chairman of  Masjid Al-Muttaqin and their team members joining us in the distribution of food and cookies as well as NTUC vouchers.

While the distribution team at Sin Ming Avenue that comprised of  10 volunteers from IMSSA, was pleased to work together with volunteers from Bishan Heights RC, Thomson Sin Ming Ville RC and Madrasah Al-Arabiah Al-Islamiah for the distribution.

Altogether a total of 400 needy families received the assorted Raya cookie boxes, dates, biryani, porridge and Families for Life resource kits and were delighted to receive them.

The recipients expressed their heartfelt thanks to the volunteers and organisers for the food and assorted Hari Raya cookies. The volunteers and participants were grateful for the humbling opportunity to experience the joy of giving.

Dr Koh thanked the volunteers who participated in the distribution at the Ang Mo Kio blocks and shared with them the importance of upholding racial and religious harmony through such meaningful projects which aim to share its blessings with all – regardless of race and religion.

On the whole, it was a meaningful project that enabled the community to enliven the true spirit of Ramadan – the month of giving.

Wishing all, Selamat Hari Raya Puasa!
