The spreading of happiness during festivities has been successfully expanding its reach over the past year, since its commencement. The Blessings To All Team is beyond satisfied with the outreach achieved thus far.
This year, Chinese New Year came early, on 11 February, for the needy residents in 3 areas; Ang Mo Kio, Marsiling and Chong Pang. The respective teams catering to each of the 3 areas had different initiatives planned for their residents.
Nonetheless, food distribution was a definite itinerary for all the 3 areas. Simply due to the fact that any festive celebration cannot be complete without food.
“Give to others what you love for yourself. “
One of IMSSA’s favourite phrase is to ” Give to others what you love for yourself “. Thus, a group of volunteers gathered to commence on the preparation from the evening of 10th February that continued till the morning of 11th February. Racing against time, another group of volunteers formed a food chain to pack the food prepared by the cooking team and off they went for food distribution at the different areas.
A total of 1200 packets of meals were cooked to be distributed to 3 areas, namely Ang Mo Kio, Yishun and Marsiling. The menu included Chicken Rice, Vegetables and Porridge.
Chinese New Year Spring Cleaning & Food Distribution By IMSSA’s North Team @ Chong Pang
Before the New Year comes, it is one of the Chinese New Year customs to clean the house from top to bottom to get rid of all the bad luck gathered in the previous year. However, some of the needy residents are feeble and unable to conduct spring cleaning by themselves. Therefore for this Chinese New Year festive season, our IMSSA youth volunteers provided spring cleaning services for the needy elderly in 11 household units of Block 701B on 11 February. It was indeed a meaningful and eye-opening experience for the youth volunteers!
The specially prepared food was distributed amongst the selected needy residents; who were beyond delight to receive it. They enjoyed their lunch that comprised of chicken rice and porridge! Alongside, to enlighten the residents this festive season, home-made pineapple tarts, freshly baked by our youth volunteers were delightfully distributed as well!
The Kindness Project – Chinese New Year Food Distribution By IMSSA’s North-West Team @ Marsiling
The Kindness Project took place once again at Marsiling area with CNY Food Distribution. In collaboration with Marsiling Zone 6 RC, the food was distributed to the needy families of Marsiling at the RC Centre located at Blk 310, Woodlands Street 31.
The packing for the distribution at Marsiling was coordinated by Mdm Halima Fouziya. It was positive to see students, Ameers and Ustaz alike come together and be a part of this event. A total of 230 packets were packed for the residents of Marsiling, alone.
The food was then transported to the RC Centre at noon, before being distributed an hour later. It was indeed heart-warming to see smiles on the residents’ face as they collected the food from the central food collection point. The residents and the RC members were thankful for the contribution by IMSSA.
A photo-taking session with the RC members and residents concluded the beneficial and valuable event as everyone returned home with glee and contentment of having received a packet of the sumptuous food; which reminded the needy residents that they too can have a joyous Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year Rations & Food Distribution By IMSSA’s Central Team
IMSSA’s Central Team’s Food From The Heart Project 2018 ended with a bang with Yio Chu Kang (YCK) residents! It was indeed a meaningful morning well-spent by the volunteers, celebrating the Chinese New Year in Singapore style with the YCK residents!
IMSSA`s Central Division partnered with the Yio Chu Kang Zone 3 RC, Youth of Al-Muttaqin Mosque (YAQIN) and Rahmatan Lil ‘Aalamin (RLA) Foundation to bring happiness during the festive season to about 300 less-privileged elderly residents!
Food rations such as dried food items like biscuits, bee hoon, canned food items, cereal, milo and rice were given out to the residents. This time around, residents came down to the RC to collect their preferred and most needed food items according to their household needs.
In the late morning, volunteers distributed porridge and chicken rice prepared by IMSSA volunteers. Mandarin oranges sponsored by Rahmatan Lil ‘Aalamin (RLA) Foundation and Ang Baos filled with chocolates were also presented to the residents to wish them good luck for the upcoming New Year.
IMSSA Volunteers worked in hand with the Youth of Al-Muttaqin Mosque to distribute the rations to the residents.
Regardless of race, language or religion, the act of giving is definitely the Singaporean style of a festive season!
The event aided in emphasizing IMSSA’s model of “Gather, Learn, Serve”, and acted as a reminder of the abundance of sustenance that we have been blessed with.
“Only by GIVING are you able to receive MORE than you already have.”
