On 20th September 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, IMSSA volunteers finally came together for the Mid-Autumn Festival to distribute handmade mooncakes to the less fortunate families in a special distribution event, organised by Marine Parade GRC, Kembangan-Chai Chee Youth Network and Lions Club of Singapore Central. The event was kindly graced by Tan Chuan-Jin, Member of Parliament for Kembangan-Chai Chee (Marine Parade GRC) and Seah Kian Peng, Member of Parliament for Braddell Heights (Marine Parade GRC).
To prepare for the event which involved halal mooncake-making, 14 IMSSA representatives underwent the WSQ Food Safety Course on 13th September to attain proper hygiene certification. These representatives were then involved in the mooncake-making from early morning to early afternoon on the event day. The team had hussled to produce ~2000 halal mooncakes. Tasks involved dough-making from scratch, folding lotus paste filling and mould-making which were evenly delegated amongst volunteers. It was truly an interesting, unique experience for all!
After the mooncakes were packed into nice boxes, another team consisting of ~40 IMSSA volunteers gathered at various distribution points to collect and proceed with door-to-door distribution. It was a delight to have families open their door and see smiles on their faces! MP Seah Kian Peng had also joined the team for the personal door-to-door distribution.
Alhamdulillah! It was an enlightening experience for everyone who participated! We were thankful for the opportunity to serve the community once again in commemoration of the Mid-Autumn Festival even during the COVID-19 period.
