Eid Feast for All @ Willing Hearts

1st May 2023

10 Syawal 1444H

Alhamdulillah, this year, we are ever grateful to be given multiple opportunities to serve the community. We are especially thankful to Willing Hearts for reaching out to us to provide a special Eid Feast for all of their 6,000 beneficiaries at their very own industrial kitchen. On 1st May, during Labour Day, we cooked up a storm at Willing Hearts while we bid farewell to Ramadan 1444H. It was an especially meaningful contribution for us.

Preparations started as early as the day before where several volunteers gathered to prepare vegetables, necessary spices and set up the kitchen space. We were ever grateful to receive Willing Hearts volunteers as well for this event. They were all very helpful in preparing the ingredients for such a large-scale cooking.

The Eid menu consisted of our traditional Indian ghee rice with flavorful chicken masala, topped with Keseri dessert and salad as sides.

To prepare the different dishes, a dedicated team stayed on throughout the wee hours of the night. Food was cooked with passion and love by our experienced chefs. It surely was a wonderful experience for all, learning how to operate within an industrial kitchen.

To pack the food to be served and ready, another pool of volunteers arrived. By 11am, 6,000 bento boxes were prepared to be distributed by the Willing Hearts team.

As Allah (s.w.t) has mentioned in the Al-Qur’an,

“وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءً وَلَا شُكُورًا”

And they give food in spite of love for it[1] to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], “We feed you only for the face [i.e., approval] of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.

~ Qur’an (76:8-9)

Alhamdullilah! May Allah (swt) give us more of such opportunities to serve the community! Ameen.
