As this year we go by the theme ‘An event for our neighbours’, we had invited guests from various Chinese & Hindu temples, churches, mosques, schools and other institutions & organizations in the locality as we endeavour to make this a neighbourhood gathering where all come under one roof to break fast together regardless of race and religion. We were truly honored to welcome about 200 guests representing from these institutions and organizations namely, New Hope Community Services, Hong San See Chinese Temple, Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Malay Youth Performing Art (MyPart), Tabernacle of Christ, Yishun Methodist Mission, Smyrna Assembly Church, Balasubramaniyam Temple, Mariyamman Temple, Sree Narayana Mission (Singapore), Naval Base Primary School, Masjid Al-Iman at our harmony Iftar.
We were joined by 200 needy beneficiaries with their families totalling to 600 needy residents from Chong Pang, Kebun Baru, Nee Soon Central, Nee Soon South and Nee Soon East community centres in the North District. The beneficiaries were elated to receive a $50 worth of green packet from their respective Advisors.
The menu for this year was Ghee Rice, Chicken Sambhal, Indian Rojak, Mutton Kheema Bun, Kueh, Dates, Grapes, Blueberry Drink, F&N Nutrisoy and Mineral Water.
The children were delighted to open up the IMSSA Happy Meal consisting of Burger, Corn Cup, Brownies, Kueh, Dates, Grapes, Ribena, F&N Nutrisoy and Mineral Water along with a goodie bag.
All these was prepared, packed and laid for feast by our very own IMSSA volunteers along with the support of 74 external volunteers from organizations namely National Institute of Education, Muslim Students Society – Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Whitley Secondary School, Victoria Junior College, Alive students and Muslimah from Masjid Darul Makmur.
We had various live performances from 6pm and ended off with a beautiful live azaan from Uztat Billal, signalling the time for breaking of fast. At the stroke of 7.08pm, everyone began to dine on the elaborate meal set forth before them.
This Harmony Iftar 2019 was an immense success with a turnout of more than 3000 residents and this was mainly achievable with the contribution of our donors, supporters, sponsors and volunteers.
Alhamdulillah. It is important that we share our blessings with the community during the month of Ramadan which is indeed the month of giving.
