28 Ramadan 1440
Our Harmony Iftar 2019 at Bishan Active Park marked the finale iftar for 2019! This Harmony Iftar Buka Puasa was jointly organised by Bishan –Toa Payoh GRC, People’s Association (PA) and Indian Muslim Social Service Association (IMSSA). It was supported by Central CDC, SG Cares, Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circles (IRCC), MESRA and F&N 100 Plus.
We were glad to have the presence of Mrs Josephine Teo as the Guest of Honour for this event.
The iftar (break of fast food) menu of the day consisted of Briyani, Mysore Mutton, Vadai, Lychee, Dates, Kueh Lapis and Konyyaku Jelly. The Sahur (take home meal) encompassed of Jeera Rice and Chicken Sambal.
Planning for iftar began months ahead, however the crux of it all came down in the week of the iftar. This included door-to-door flyer distribution, packing of logistics items and preparing of all grocery items needed for the cooking and packing process.
Volunteers came as early at 6.30am on the iftar day itself where cooking preparations began.
One of the key highlights of this year’s iftar is the distribution of food to needy families that reside at Sin Ming, Toa Payoh West, Toa Payoh Central and Bishan North and Ang Mo Kio. In the afternoon itself, volunteers set off to distribute food to these residents.
وَمَنْ يَسَّرَ عَلَى مُعْسِرٍ، يَسَّرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ
And whoever alleviates the need of a needy person, Allah will alleviate his needs in this world and the Hereafter.
By late evening, residents streamed in to the iftar venue and right at sunset, everyone ate together harmoniously. Around 3000 participants graced this occasion.
We would like to thank all donors, sponsors and every helping hand that made all our iftars possible. Till next year where we meet again with our mass iftars, catch us in our many other monthly and weekly activities where we strive to reach out to the community.
