Harmony Iftar @ MacPherson 2016

Harmony Iftar involves the gathering and celebration of break of fast during the Islamic month of Ramdhan together as a community. IMSSA organised its final iftar at MacPherson CC collaborating with MacPherson CC’s Malay Activity Executive Committee (MAEC). Wak Tanjong Mosque and Sallim Mattar Mosque supported this gracious event.

Held on the 3rd July 2016 at MacPherson CC, our Harmony Iftar was graced by Ms Tin Pei Ling, Member of Parliament and Adviser to MacPherson. Our event was a huge success, with over 3000 participants who gathered together with their family and friends to break their fast together.

This served as an opportunity for all Non-Muslim participants to know more about fasting as we live in a multi religious and multi racial society. Together with this, we also served 200 needy residents with NTUC food vouchers worth $25 and food rations worth $20. Our volunteers also grabbed the opportunity to give door-to-door visits to invite the elderly and needy residents residing in MacPherson prior to the events.

Participants were delighted to be welcomed with a wide variety of food such as puthina rice, mutton masala, strawberry and blueberry cheese tart, kueh lapis, samosa and even lychee. To top it off, participants also received packets of Indian mixture, jeera rice and chicken sambal, which were well received by all.

One of the special highlights of our Harmony Iftar @ MacPherson was the distribution of Ang Pao.To welcome the spirit of Hari Raya celebrations in the next few days, green packets were also distributed to all children during the Harmony Iftar @ MacPherson. All the children who participated had shown joy and excitement as they received their special goodies in their kids’ meal. This had kids-friendly food items that would encourage children to fast and look forward to participating in such Harmony Iftars together with their family and friends.

The Girl Guides from Balestier Hill Secondary School had also joined us to serve the residents who participated. “Students had a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience what it takes to fast and serve delicious food for all who attend the event. They also got to know more about the valuable practices of other religions and appreciate living in harmony better”, commented the teacher-in-charge of the team of volunteers who grabbed the opportunity to do their part for the community.

With the presence of a large number of residents residing in MacPherson, we took immense pleasure in welcoming them to celebrate the success of our very first Harmony Iftar at MacPherson. On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to thank all donors, sponsors and volunteers who have worked hard in making IMSSA’s finale iftar a successful one! Eid Mubarak to all!
