14 Ramadan 1440H
Iftars have been an annual occurrence at the Indian Muslim Social Service Association (IMSSA) since 2004. What started off as a gathering for 50 students from our Madrasah has now expanded to cater to over 6000 people, including residents, beneficiaries, volunteers and guests.
2016 saw the birth of Iftar Utara @ Marsiling to cater to the less privileged families in the Marsiling vicinity. With a lot of collaboration and support from the Community Centre and Resident Committees, we were able to get many of these families to be a part of this iftar.
2019 was a challenge with 6000 attendees on 19 May, Sunday. To cater to such a huge audience, planning began way back in March 2019, with Marsiling Community Centre and Masjid An-Nur.
Preparation of the venue and food began early Saturday morning. Volunteers from all 3 branches of Madrasah As-Soabereen came down to play their part in this Iftar, on both Saturday and Sunday. Food preparation, cooking, food packing, food distribution, laying out of tables, decorations and ushering were some of the predominant tasks over the 2 days.
Our Iftar was graced by Advisors to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC GROs, Mr Zaqy Mohamed, Minister for National Development and Manpower, and Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance. There was a line up of programs to entertain the attendees, including a performance by IMSSA’s lower primary children.
Alhamdulillah, the iftar was a success with 6000 attendees, including 400 beneficiaries, volunteers from IMSSA, NIE, NPMS and RPMS. This would not have been possible without the hard work of all our volunteers! May Allah shower his blessings upon our iftar in the years to come! Aameen.
