24 December 2017
20 Rabi’ul Awwal 1439
On 24th December 2017 (Sunday), some two hundred MacPherson residents had a special treat in light of Year End Festive Celebration. As the festive season approached, to expand the Blessings To All Team’s Festivity theme, “Spread Happiness this Festive”, IMSSA’s East Team decided to gather all the elderly residents together. Therefore, to provide a joyous platform for them to have a chat amongst each other, have good food, play some games and get special gifts from us. The theme of the day was, “Gather, Eat & Taste”, which was derived with the aim of making sure that every elderly resident that came left the area feeling happier and more active.
This was achieved by conducting a Year End Festive Celebration with a Block Party at Block 90 of Pipit Road, just by the MacPherson Community Centre (CC). IMSSA had partnered with MacPherson CC and Salim Mattar Mosque to support the event. Through MacPherson CC, two blocks were identified to be predominantly occupied by elderlies, who need the most social support.
Prior to the event, special flyers were personally distributed door-to-door to the residents by IMSSA’s and MacPherson CC’s volunteers. This was to ensure that every intended elderly will join us. At the same time, if any elderly considered to be physically weak to attend the event, our volunteers can ensure that the respective elderlies will still get to be part of the celebration. Salim Mattar Mosque’s support in this event by aiding us for logistic equipment was of great help.
To the delight of all the invited residents, 200 gifts were gathered from family and friends. These gifts were then hand-wrapped and distributed to the elderly during the event. To keep them occupied, about six game booths were prepared and manned by our younger IMSSA members that ranged from childhood games like five stones to traditional henna.
Hearty meals were also prepared from scratch by IMSSA’s catering team. The menu included Vegetarian Porridge, Ghee Rice, Black Pepper Mutton, Butter Chicken, Pandan Leaf Tea and Iced Fruit Drink.
On 24th December, from 11am to 1pm, our invited elderly residents had thoroughly enjoyed themselves with food and games. Our volunteers made sure they were all greeted with big smiles, with love and warmth shared. As they were about to leave, each of them were gifted with a present and packed food. From their faces, it was evident that we had managed to make their day a little better! Alhamdulillah!
