National Day Celebration

Alhamdulillah, On the 7th of August, all in Madrasah As-Soabereen (Yishun) came together to celebrate our nation’s 57th year of independence at Masjid Assyafaah, and we are indeed grateful to call Singapore our Homeland.

We celebrated this special day by organising a Mini Carnival. It had different booths set up for the children by our IMSSA volunteers, which included traditional games such as chapteh, a photo booth with props and polaroid films, and even a rojak stall, and not forgetting, our old-school snacks such as kachang puteh, popcorn, and cotton candy. Indeed the children enjoyed visiting the different booths together with their friends and truly gained more knowledge about Singapore’s traditions, while having fun and munching on traditional delights.

After the carnival, our students gathered to witness the Flag Raising Ceremony carried out by volunteers hailing from various Uniformed Groups. We sang the national anthem proudly, led by the voices of the youngest of the crowd- the preschoolers! – and completed the observance with the National Pledge.

We ended the day with an excitement-filled Kahoot quiz about Singapore. Regardless of age, the students were very enthusiastic and participated actively in answering some historical questions about Singapore and our Founding fathers.  Before dismissal, the students enjoyed a small National Day special with their classes- cake!

This year’s national day carnival was indeed a memorable experience, as the students were able to acquire a deeper understanding of the importance of being a good citizen and developing a sense of patriotism and responsibility for our country. We are truly thankful to Allah (S.W.T) for giving us this opportunity, Alhamdulillah.
