Orientation 2019 – “You are the Essential Piece”

12 Jamadilakhir 1440

The academic year commenced on the 6th of January 2019. Since then, many new and old students have been streaming into Madrasah As-Soabereen to join the jamaa’ah every Sunday between 2.00pm to 6.30pm. With an aim to create awareness among parents about Madrasah initiatives that will benefit their children and the society at large, Madrasah As-Soabereen (Bishan) held its first event of the year – Orientation. The event took place on 17 February 2019 at Masjid An-Nahdhah’s Atrium between 2.00pm to 6.30pm

The orientation, titled, “You are the essential piece”, gathered about 140 parents, to enable them to know more about the curriculum and initiatives for the academic year. To garner their essential support, the event had 3 segments – introduction of initiatives by key Ustazas-in-charge, parent-child activity and experiential learning sessions.

The orientation began with introducing madrasah-wide initiatives and interactive teaching techniques used by the different levels to enable their students to learn better. Similar to the hands-on activities that the students participate in on a weekly basis, their parents were also given an opportunity to do so. The segment saw many excited parents who expressed their keenness to learn. Alhamdulillah. To conclude the first segment, an array of dishes and drinks were laid to satiate the hungry audience.

Following the sumptuous feast, the parents were ready to participate in the Healthy Snack Segment, which was a parent-child activity. Participating students, who were released from their classes, actively crafted out creative healthy snacks with their parents. The dishes were tempting enough that the creators were eagerly waiting to consume their dishes. Through the segment, it can be proved that children could adopt healthy eating habits if the food is presented in a creative manner.

To conclude the orientation, the parents were directed to 4 different classes, whereby each conducted experiential learning in different ways that catered to the respective classes. Excitedly, the parents participated in the respective class activities along with the students. The organising team was grateful to learn that many parents were contented to experience their children’s study environment in Madrasah As-Soabereen (Bishan).

So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth all together. Indeed, Allah has power over all things.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Verse 148
