The IMSSA Family Development Programme (FDP) was established as a sub-committee in 2019 to assist and support vulnerable families in the community.
As part of the objective to reach out to vulnerable families, IMSSA FDP collaborated with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), FITRAH (MUIS) and Singapore Prisons Services (SPS) in early 2021. The collaboration involved partaking in their Yellow Ribbon Community Programme (YRCP).
The Yellow Ribbon Community Project is a grassroots-led initiative whereby grassroots volunteers from participating grassroots divisions will provide support to newly admitted offenders and their families through home visits and available avenues of social assistance.
Through dialogues with the organising committees, IMSSA FDP agreed to provide befriending services, food rations, religious classes, and tuition help (for schooling children) to the participating families. By doing so, IMSSA FDP hopes to ensure that affected families can continue to sustain and thrive and prevent inter-generational offending within the family.
IMSSA FDP has, thus far, registered 45 trained volunteers to assist these vulnerable families. FITRAH has started to gradually assign families to these volunteers.
And Alhamdulillah! IMSSA has assisted about 20 plus and counting families so far. FDP has managed to provide rations and distribute Qurban meat during the month of Zulhijjah to all the families already under IMSSA care. All the families were very grateful to receive their rations.
In January 2022 IMSSA was invited to collaborate with Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home in assisting to provide mentoring to children. IMSSA was delighted to grab the opportunity in serving the community, especially the children from vulnerable families. Thus, IMSSA has started mentoring two children from Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home.
More Asatizah certified Ustazs are registered to apply for their respective Prison pass to carry out in-care religious programmes to offenders. Moving forward IMSSA Ustazah are able to collaborate with SPS to be a religious counsellor, Khathib, curriculum writer or a befriender for inmates.
IMSSA is also honoured to welcome converts into our IMSSA family to ensure they receive proper guidance in Islam.
