Tarannum Competition 2015

Tarannum Competition 2015

Alhamdulilah, this year, the Annual Tarannum Competition took place on the 19th of September 2015 (Saturday), at Masjid An-Nahdhah from 2pm to 6pm. The competition was jointly organised by both the Girls Qirath Teams of Bishan and Yishun. Alhamdulilah, it was well received with a total turnout of over 130 people attending this year’s finals.

The objectives of this competition is a aplenty. Firstly, itis to establish a platform for our pupils to recite the Quran with proper Pronunciation, Tajweed and Tarannum. It also aims to showcase pupils’ talents and skills in the recitation of the Quran. Most importantly, it serves to bring the pupils closer to the Quran by constantly engaging them with the practice of reciting the Quran melodiously in the long term for the sake of Allah.

This year there was a total of 24 finalists who were split into 6 categories:

1)      Primary – Beginner

2)      Primary – Intermediate

3)      Primary –  Advanced

4)      Secondary & Tertiary Level – Intermediate

5)      Secondary & Tertiary Level – Advanced

6)      Parents Level

Indeed it had been a long journey for the finalists of the competition. Prior to the finals event itself, both Yishun and Bishan Teams hosted a series of auditions to select the best pupils to represent thedifferent categories. Besides these 24 finalists, there had been 58 non-finalists too whom had worked hard.On the day of the finals, the guests were first greeted with the opening recital of Surah Saffat from our young Nursery talent.

The competition thereafter, kick started with pupils from various levels participating throughout the 6 categories.

The newest addition to this year’s competition would be the Spontaneous Recital Round. In this round, the participants from the Advanced categories were given a set of Quran verses to read on the spot. The aim of this round was to assess, if pupils were able to apply the proper Pronunciation and Tajweed rules together with Tarannum even with a Surah that they have not learnt or familiarised themselves with before coming for the competition. Such a round assisted the judges to see who were truly capable to take the crown of being a winner.
Not only were the guests engaged with the various recitals of the Surahs by our participants, exciting audience games too were organized specially for them. From Guess the Surah to 3 pics 1 word, the audience was made to guess the meanings of Surah names and different Sahabahs through pictures. Indeed, we hope that they had learnt a bit or two about Islam through these interactive games sessions. The guests also feasted on a sumptuous set of buffet meal during their break.

Finally, the much awaited results too came as the winners were announced.

Alhamdulilah, we would like to extend our gratitude to all the ustazahs who have mentored the participants and also the parents who had taken time to conscientiously push the children at home and support them in the development towards Quran recitations. Finally, we would like to thank the judges and everyone else who had taken their time off to come and support the children during the event, JazakallahKhair.

In Sha Allah, let us work hand in hand to groom
our future generations to be Qaris and Qariahs who recite the Quran in a melodious manner for the sake of Allah and apply it in their lives.
