Tilaawathul Quran Competition 2022

Ramadhan – The month of Al-Quran

The Tilaawathul Quran Competition is an annual event that has been showcasing the recitation skills across all ages of our students in Madrasah As-Soabereen. This year, the competition was taken to greater heights with a wider reach and audience. With the arrival of Ramadhan in 2022, to honour this month, the month of Al-Quran, the Tilaawathul Quran 2022 was held throughout the entire month via our very own Youtube Channel – IMSSA Media. As Allah (s.w.t.) has mentioned:

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ
Ramadhan is the month in which the Quran was revealed

(Al-Baqarah : Verse 185)

Thus, students of all ages, across our three branches (Yishun, Bishan & Eunos) took part in this competition every day in the month of Ramadhan, through the following categories:

  • Preschool
  • Lower Primary
  • Middle Primary
  • Upper Primary
  • Secondary to Tertiary (Girls)
  • Secondary to Tertiary (Boys)
  • Parents
  • Muallimah
  • Muallim

Everyday, via IMSSA Media’s YouTube channel, right before iftar, the competition segment was aired. Each category took turns to come to the centre stage.

Students were judged on three aspects:

  1. Pronunciation & Articulation of Letters
  2. Tajweed
  3. Tarranum

The categories that comprised of older participants had more challenging and complex tajweed rules to showcase such as the following:

Throughout the entire programme, there was also a special segment called “Tajweed-ul Quran”. This was indeed an effort to create greater awareness of the Tajweed rules that are present in the Quran, and why it is necessary to learn it and adhere to the rules while reciting the Al-Quran.

In each episode, a specific rule was covered with examples to help the audience to grasp the particular Tajweed rule.

Continuing with the competition, finally, after 2 weeks of competition rounds that was held within branches, the finalists were chosen to compete on an inter-branch competition level. Finalists competed against their peers from Yishun, Bishan and Eunos branches, Alhamdulillah.

The competition was indeed intense, however our participants truly recited melodiously from their hearts and inspired the remembrance of Allah (s.w.t) and his reminders to all of us.

The judges too had a challenging time deciding the finalists and winners of the competition itself. For some of the categories, the differences between the participants were indeed on very close margins.

The audience too were tasked to choose their “Audience Favourite” at the end of each finals.

Finally on the Day of Eidul Fitr – Shawwal 1, the winners were announced via Youtube – 2022 Tilaawathul Quran Awards.

The award show featured the participants down a memory lane, and the feedback of the judges of different categories.

The winners of the different categories too were featured along with their recitation videos.

Finally, the winners were revealed and following are some features of the winners.

Alhamdulillah, the organizing team of the Tilaawathul Quran 2022 competition would like to thank all our participants, parents, ustazs, ustazahs, mentors and the audience for their unwavering support towards the mission of inspiring the remembrance of our Rabb and His words – the Al-Quran through the melodious recitations.

Allah s.w.t. has mentioned in Al-Quran:

كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَـٰرَكٌۭ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

“Verily the one “A Book (the Quran) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.”

(Quran 38:29)

In Sha Allah, let us all continue striving towards reading the Quran melodiously, memorize it well by our hearts and move towards understanding the beautiful language of Arabic that it was revealed in. Till then, see you again next year for another round of challenge!
