Collaboration with the Down Syndrome Association – Session #1

Alhamdulillah, we have kickstarted a new collaboration with the Down Syndrome Association (DSA) on a project entitled – Discover. Shine. Amaze.
The objective of this project is to allow DSA participants to discover themselves (i.e., their talents, skills), shine in various aspects and amaze not only themselves but also the people around them.
Alhamdulillah, we kicked off our first session on Saturday, June 17th. We spent our Saturday morning from 10am to 12pm engaging participants in the Enrichment Workshop.
To break the ice, we started by introducing ourselves. Additionally, we engaged in a scratch card designing activity where each of us drew something that represented our favourite thing. Later, we shared our drawings with each other.
Here, one of our participants is sharing about a favourite animal, Emu, that she drew!
Afterwards, we moved on to playing Simon Says to get everyone’s engines running for a later session of movement. Each of us took turns being ‘Simon’ and giving a set of instructions for our friends to follow!
Check out these amazing moments we captured of our participants and facilitators totally nailing it while following Simon’s instructions! Their enthusiasm and dedication are truly inspiring.
After that, we took a movement break where we followed the workout from ActiveSG – Dance of the Nation. Some participants were skilled in the steps and even led the rest of us too!
Finally, concluding the session, we had some colouring and card games to test their memory and hand-eye coordination skills.
With that, our first session with DSA came to an end.
We are ever thankful to Allah s.w.t. for giving us this opportunity to get to know the different groups in this society. In sha Allah, here’s to more exciting and engaging sessions in the future!
